Overnight in the hotel Pyramiden
Pyramiden, nestled at the base of a towering mountain, derives its name from its geographical setting. Founded in 1911, this town is ensconced amidst mountains, a vast glacier, and sprawling moraines. Coal production commenced in 1956, fostering the development of a model socialist community in the 1970s-1980s. Preserved since 1998, Pyramiden's Soviet-era infrastructure stands as a testament to its storied past. Today, the town welcomes visitors and continues to flourish as a tourist destination. Renovated facilities including a boiler house, hotel, restaurant, and cinema attract not only tourists but also filmmakers, journalists, free riders, and bloggers from around the world.
The Nordenskiöld, a towering ice wall of the Lomonosov Plateau, stretches approximately 25 km in length and spans 11 km in width. Flowing southwestward, its terminus lies in Adolfsbukta, a branch of Billefjorden. Named in honor of Nils Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld, a Finnish geologist renowned for his expeditions to Svalbard, his contributions have significantly impacted Arctic exploration.
